Book Signing in Little Rock

Flew up to Little Rock for the day for a fun book signing at Shoppes on Woodlawn. It was a beautiful day! One of my favorite friends met me at the plane and as it is with favorite friends... too much to say, too little time.

New Book

When my first book came out in 2004, the first thing someone said to me was,"When does the second book come out?" Well...it's finally here!! The title  is "Be Kind Be Sweet Be Nice to Everyone You Meet". My middle daughter Mary Moore and I created it this summer. We had talked about how we were not hearing "please" and "thank you" from  children we were coming in contact with and decided to do something about that. So we made a manners book along with counting. One is to count the kind words. So for instance one kind word is "please". Two kind words are "thank you" and so on up to twelve kind words. Then each page has a rhyme, a thought and a scripture to back up the kindness. Here is a sample page. It is 8 kind words. The page reads "When you make a little mess at your home or as a guest, clean up after yourself, that will be the best."

Country Living

I can't believe I haven't written anything since May... Well I guess I have been busy. Anyway one of the most exciting things happened since then!! My backpack picnic basket was featured in Country Living magazine in the November 2008 issue (p.88) And because of that I have been able to meet so many kind people from across the country and Canada! I have gathered that there are other picnic lovers out there or at least people who like picnic baskets!!

My Mother's Birthday

My mother was born on Mother's day. This year is the first time since she died that Mother's Day was again on her birthday. She would have been 79. Sweet memories and bittersweet missing her.

Behold

This past weekend at Mayfest in Ft. Worth, I had a woman come up to me in tears. She said I had moved her heart through one of my paintings. It turned out that the scripture on the painting "Behold, I will not forget you. I have engraved you on the palm of my hand", is one that she often uses at her job. She is director of the Pregnancy Assistance League in Ft. Worth and uses that verse to remind young women that God has a plan for their babies and he has not forgotten them.
I gave her the painting and they are going to hang it in the children's playroom at the Pregnancy center.

Rooster Lamps

In preparation for Mayfest this weekend, I painted some of my rooster lamps. They are a little wild, but fun.

Here's a thought that I am pondering...what would it look like if we did everything with excellence? Some dear friends from Austin were in town yesterday and left that with me...

Mayfest

This coming weekend...May 1-4, 2008, I will have a booth at Mayfest http://www.mayfest.org/ on the Trinity River in Ft. Worth , Texas. I am taking my new giclee prints of some of my newest paintings as well as the backback picnic baskets, the book, CDs, lamps and some original artwork.
It's supposed to be a great festival with all kinds of events.

April 27, 2008 Parenting class

Today in the parenting class that Clark and I lead, we talked about "ponderings of the heart".Think of scripture where the angel Gabriel tells Mary she is expecting God's child. The Bible says"she pondered these things in her heart." Whether it be called thinking or meditating or pondering, we all talk to ourselves in our heart. A child who has just misbehaved or been rude and has been punished might be pushed to anger. Instead, ponder (ha ha)this: explain to the child why he is in trouble, remind him or her they are loved by you and Jesus, but the deed was wrong and why.
Then ask them to sit for a while and think about it in their heart, and when they are ready to, they can come and apologize or talk about it or think of a better way they might handle the mishap next time. Of course this won't work all the time, but there is a chance that instead of thinking how unfair life is and being angry, they might actually ponder that you said you loved them and have a positive outcome for the both of you.
I also used some of my songs as testimony to thoughts on parenting.
The Son on Sunday.... what are you doing to make the son evident in your home on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday?
The Good Shepherd Knows My Name.....The Good Shepherd loves you, watches over you and knows your name....Are you making your child feel secure in knowing these awesome realities?
Timothy Tyler... Does your child see you with friends that are so close and dear that you would die for them? Do you have close friends?
God's Crazy About You......Have your children ever seen you forgive someone who has wronged you?
Just some thoughts to ponder on....

Wall in Lecture Hall

Yesterday, I was in Ft. Worth working on a wall in a lecture hall of Ft. Worth Presbyterian church. Gail had a really creative vision for the wall. She and Kay fauxed a wall to look like stone (which was an amazing feat because they worked with an extension ladder on the highest points of the wall (20ft.)They did a beautiful job which made my part easy. That was to create a 6ft. wooden cross and add a particular scripture to the wall.
